Re-laying the first and second lanes of the damaged synthetic track at the Sugathadasa Outdoor Stadium is said to be a pointless task as such a measure would mean no international events could be held on the track anymore.
This is because athletes competing in these two lanes would get added advantage after being freshly re-laid.
Also, top layer of the track alone had cost Rs. 113 million when it was laid last.
Earlier, similar sum was spent to prepare the entire stadium for the 1991 SAF Games.
Sports critics say that doubts have been risen as to whether the Sports Minister is attempting to nick another chuck of cash by commencing renovations.
