Ranil 410px 26-04-13Opposition parties, mass organizations as well as anti-Rajapaksa ministers in the government have urged Ranil Wickremesinghe to stand in for the upcoming presidential election under a common front and a common symbol, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns from reliable sources

.The said group has requested the United National Party (UNP) leader to pass the particular suggestion at the working committee, which is to be convened on September 23 to discuss the appointment of Sajith Premadasa as the deputy leader of the party.

The groups of opposition and ruling party who have agreed to extend support to Ranil Wickremesinghe have been confused after Sajith Premadasa indicated that he does not prefer a broad front of the opposition. As a result the discussions with regard to the matter have also failed.

The sources further report that though a government minister was to cross over to UNP soon after the conclusion of Uva provincial council election, he has changed his mind due to the leadership crisis within UNP.
