ModayageRoad 410px 14 09 12Residents of the Kotalawala junction in the Hingurakgoda Divisional secretariat are dejected over a government decision to gravel the Road D3RD4 located at the Kotalawala junction as 'Modayage Paara' (loosely translated as Fool's Road) under the  'Eka Gamakata Eka Wedak' countrywide development program.

A hoarding displayed by the Economic Development ministry at the location is shown below.

The programme is spearheaded under the ‘Gama Neguma’ national development program, under the concept of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and under the purview of Economic Development minister - Basil Rajapaksa.

According to residents, the area was named after Sir John Kotelawala at the beginning of the Minneriya agricultural colony days.

It is said that Sir John Kotelawala used a silver axe to cut the first branch cleared to build the said road and this phenomenon had taken place at Bubula, which is found in a road nearby the D3RD4 road.

Residents are of the view that naming such a road as 'Modayage Paara' is an insult to the memory of Sir John Kotelawala.
