Karu sajith 410px 17-08-14The Chairman of United National Party (UNP) Leadership Council, Karu Jayasuriya, has stated that he also completely agrees with providing Sajith Premadasa with a 'rightful place' in order to rejoin him with active politics of the party.

Jayasuriya made these comments in response to an inquiry made by 'Sri Lanka Mirror' regarding the reports which claims that Sajith Premadasa has stated that he wants deputy leader’s position if he is to join the election campaign of Uva province.

He, who further stated that Sajith Premadasa has not thus far made such a request from the leadership council, added that he has requested Sajith Premadasa to participate in the Leadership Council in a number of occasions.

Jayasuriya reminded that the day he was appointed to the Leadership Council he invited those who are staying apart from the party due to certain disagreements to rejoin in order to chase away the Rajapaksa government and establish a UNP led government. He also stated that even the party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe made the same request at Mahiyanganaya on Friday (Aug 15).

Accordingly, measures should be taken to recollect the people who left the party, expelled from the party, are staying away from the party and facing disciplinary inquiries, he said.

However, rather than the personal objectives of certain individuals nationally the party's progress is more important, Jayasuriya said, emphasizing that  he is ready to make any sacrifice to ensure the victory of the UNP.
