s b dissanayake 410px 25-06Higher education minister S.B. Dissanayake has described to a weekend newspaper how he had driven away voters and rigged and stuffed votes at elections during the rule of president Chandrika Kumaratunga.

Responding to a question, Dissanayake has said that the worst corrupt elections had taken place during the presidency of Chandrika Kumaratunga, after J.R. Jayewardene had introduced it and R. Premadasa too committed vote rigging and stuffing, which was followed by the the two main parties.

He has said that they had gone to the polling stations in the night, pushed aside the returning officer at gunpoint and stuffed the ballot papers.

According to him, the ballot boxes had also been kept in the police stations, where the stuffing took place.

He has said that Premadasa won with vote rigging, and power was gained in 1994 with the same tactic too.

Minister Dissanayake has added that the votes of those who had died, went overseas and the elderly from his Hanguranketa electorate had been rigged.
